THE WELLNESS COMMUNITY OF SOUTHWEST FLORIDA LAUNCHES "CAMPAIGN FOR A NEW HOME" WEBSITE
Building Hope, the campaign for a new home for The Wellness Community of Southwest Floridais a few steps closer to its goal. TWC officially closed on their 5-acre property in Lakewood Ranch in July. They alsolaunched their new website, HelpUsBuildHope.com, which provides information on the innovative green facility that will be the “optimal healing environment for people affected with cancer.”
Based on extensive research on the critical difference “place” makes in the healing process, Building Hope is a LEED Gold designed facility with eco-friendly features and an inspired combination of art, interior design and advanced technology. In addition to the numerous gardens and walking paths surrounding the 11,000+ sq. foot building, the property is adjacent to 600 acres of pristine Florida preserve. “We are ecstatic,” said Jay Lockaby, Executive Director of The Wellness Community.
The Wellness Community Southwest Florida is one of 26 centers in the international non-profit organization that provides free support services to people with cancer. When TWC-SWFL asked Ringling College of Art+Design to help them redecorate their current center on Clark Road, the project evolved into Building Hope, aglobal model for cancer care based on the latest research in wellness and healing factors.
Fund-raising began last July but campaign momentum surged with the $1.3 million lead gift from Skip and Susan Sack earlier this year. Gifts and pledges since that time have moved the campaign more than halfway to its goal of 8 million. Largely because of its cutting edgeenvironmental and wellness design features, The Wellness Community National is looking to Building Hope as their model for future TWC facilities.
“Our new facility will be able to serve thousands more people from Sarasota, Manatee and DeSoto as well as south Hillsboroughand Pinellas,” said Lockaby,“We are planning on breaking ground this fall.”
