The Wellness Community of Southwest Florida Hosts Family Fun Day for Children Surviving Cancer.

SARASOTA, FL – February 15, 2010 – The Wellness Community of Southwest Florida is hosting a Family Fun Day on Saturday, February 27, 2010 for local families with children surviving cancer. G.WIZ The Science Museum is providing their venue; the day’s activities will include a museum open house, a luncheon, and games especially designed for the group. It is anticipated that approximately 80 area families will attend.

Families with children surviving cancer in Sarasota, Manatee and Pinellas counties will not only enjoy a fun outing at G.WIZ, but will also meet and connect with other families dealing with similar issues. Additionally, The Wellness Community invited Tampa’s Children’s Cancer Center to participate so that the families attending can learn first-hand, without traveling to Tampa, of resources available through the Children’s Cancer Center.

Because the Children’s Cancer Center does not have a local office here, The Wellness Community has offered, in order to expand its own children’s services, to make their space available for area families choosing to utilize the Children’s Cancer Center’s services and counseling. The Children’s Cancer Center offers educational, emotional, and even financial assistance to families coping with a child’s cancer.

“This is going to be such a fun and energizing day. The Wellness Community is forming a link that will become yet another valuable resource for our area families and their children,” said Wellness Community’s Program Director John Kleinbaum, Ph.D. “We hope The Children’s Cancer Center becomes an integral part of our children’s cancer program and adds to the services we are able to offer.”

About The Wellness Community
