The Wellness Community of Southwest Florida Receives $14,000 Donation from Sarasota Yacht Club.
SARASOTA, FL – February 1, 2010 – The Wellness Community of Southwest Florida announces receipt of a $14,000 donation from the Sarasota Yacht Club.
The gift is a result of these organizations’ long partnership history, evidenced through events such as the 2009 Sarasota Yacht Club Invitational Regatta last fall. This is a two-way partnership – Sarasota Yacht Club supports missions and organizations that promote the health, wellness and goodwill of the yachting community, and The Wellness Community’s cancer patients benefit from being involved in the yachting community through these type events.
During the Regatta, a group of The Wellness Community’s cancer patients, along with their spouses, caregivers and therapists, observed the races aboard a Kadey-Krogen yacht supplied courtesy of The Wellness Community Board member and tireless cancer-awareness ambassador Charlie Ann Syprett. Syprett, her husband Jim, along with fellow Wellness Community volunteers, periodically offer Wellness Community-approved cancer patients day trips on their yacht.
With this donation, The Wellness Community can continue assisting families affected by one of the greatest challenges - cancer. For patients dealing with a host of treatment-related stressors and this life threatening illness, donations mean continuing the programs of hope, education and support that translate to a healthier, happier home. Because these counseling services are free, without Sarasota Yacht Club, this professional support could not continue.
About The Wellness Community:
The Wellness Community (TWC) is a not-for-profit organization that provides support, education and hope for people affected by cancer, empowering them to fight for recovery and improve the quality of their lives. TWC programs are held in a home-like facility where participants and their loved ones can meet other participants and share coping mechanisms. With the guidance and support of licensed therapists, participants learn to become actively involved in their recovery.
Our programs are funded entirely by philanthropic contributions and grants. There is no charge for any services provided by TWC. Since 1996, more than 8,500 individuals have made more than 50,000 visits to TWC in Sarasota and at satellite locations throughout the area
